Anthony had overactive back muscles
Today's content is continuing our focus on how we can change our habits,
to move and feel young again.
Anthony* felt tight, stiff and had some pain in his back and hips after lifting and training at the gym.
This left him frustrated and sometimes avoiding training and missing out on the benefits.
We had a session at Anthony's gym with his PT.
What did we see during his training?
Anthony had overactive back muscles
which felt like rods down the side of his back.
I commonly see this as a factor which contributes to pain and stiffness.
This created immediate strain during training,
as well as adding to an accumulation of strain that built over time,
which used to leave Anthony's back tighter following the training.
Anthony had treatment,
and then learned how to hold the improvements long-term,
with a change in his technique during training,
with the aim of creating this as a new habit.
For Anthony's individual strategy,
he needed to crunch
to soften his back muscles.
When Anthony does this his back muscles are optimally activated,
with the muscles being easy to press into when contracting.
And his back and hips felt good during and following training.
Including no more frustrations.
The video and images below show how we did this »
I recommend giving this a try for yourself and seeking help from a professional if you would like to achieve optimal muscle activation during training.
Take care not to do anything that increases pain or symptoms.
You may find this is helpful straight away.
You may find something is blocking ideal control,
and this strategy won't work until the blocking is removed with treatment.
You may find you need help to find the individual variation that suits you.
At Youngify we are offering free feedback on your training,
send me a video of you training and I'll provide you with feedback and suggestions.
